Circumstances described by Item 5 of the Table in Section 7 of the Regulation for Industrial Establishments require a PSR if:
“The use of a dust collector involves a risk of ignition or explosion that creates a condition of imminent hazard to a person’s health or safety.”
Dust collectors are commonly found in wood processing facilities, resin handling operations, food and pharmaceutical plants, and grain handling facilities. Certain small dust collectors are exempt from Item 5 PSR requirements although any risk of ignition or explosion will require an Item 4 PSR.
